Role of point defects on the reactivity of reconstructed anatase titanium dioxide (001) surface
The chemical reactivity of different surfaces of titanium dioxide (TiO2) has been the subject of extensive studies in recent decades. The anatase TiO2(001) and its (1 × 4) reconstructed surfaces were theoretically considered to be the most reactive and have been heavily pursued by synthetic chemists. However, the lack of direct experimental verification or determination of the active sites on t...
متن کاملA selective etching phenomenon on {001} faceted anatase titanium dioxide single crystal surfaces by hydrofluoric acid.
A selective etching phenomenon on {001} faceted anatase TiO(2) single crystal surfaces by HF and associated etching mechanism are reported. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that HF stabilizes the grown {001} facets at low concentrations, but selectively destroys the grown {001} facets at high concentrations.
متن کاملShape transitions of epitaxial islands during strained layer growth: anatase TiO2(001) on SrTiO3(001).
Extended annealing in UHV causes the surface region of SrTiO3(001) to become enriched with TiO2, resulting in the formation of epitaxial islands of anatase TiO2(001). The islands are studied using UHV scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which reveals the changes in morphology during growth induced by misfit strain. Starting from a square island, two types of shape transition are observed. In th...
متن کاملLevel set modeling of the orientation dependence of solid phase epitaxial regrowth
Level set methods have previously been successfully implemented in interface propagation for etching and deposition processes. In this article, the authors show that level set methods can be used to model solid phase epitaxial regrowth. The model incorporates orientation dependence of regrowth as found by Csepregi et al. #J. Appl. Phys. 49, 3906 !1978"$. The orientation dependent velocity data ...
متن کاملArsenic Removal from Aqueous Solution Using Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticles (Anatase)
Background and Objectives: Groundwater sources, as strategic sources of water supply, are of particular importance for human beings. Arsenic is a toxic and carcinogenic contaminant that has been reported to be widely found in groundwater sources. In recent years, adsorption property of nanoparticles has been used to remove arsenic. The present study was performed with the aim of assessing the a...
